Statement from Justice Policy Institute on Second Look Act Passage
Annapolis, Maryland (April 22, 2025) — Today, Keith Wallington, director of advocacy at the Justice Policy Institute shared a statement applauding Governor Moore for signing the Second Look Act into law:
“The Second Look Act is a powerful step toward recognizing redemption and rethinking long prison sentences. We are so excited to see this commitment and effort move forward, but justice should not depend on the year you were sentenced or the category of your conviction. Governor Moore’s signature on this bill signals his commitment to the idea that people can grow, change, and deserve a second chance.
This moment is a testament to the power of advocacy and lived experience, and we honor all those who made their voices heard to make this progress possible. But we remain committed to advancing a Second Look for all. Everyone deserves the chance to show who they’ve become.”
